I ran the 29th Annual E. Murray Todd Half-Marathon on March 5, 2006. My finish time was 1:33:16, which is a pace of 7:08. The course is quite hilly and there was a lot of wind that morning. I especially remember the wind during mile 10. I improved over last year’s time by about 12 minutes — I finished in 1:45:33 last year, which is a pace of 8:04. I had done some karate training that morning and during some sparring, I jammed my right foot pretty good on my opponent’s block to my front kick. It’s been a bit funny for almost four weeks since then. I ran the race about an hour after jamming it, but didn’t notice anything during the run. It was after I crossed the finish line and started walking that I noticed a problem with my foot. Maybe I should just run all the time now — no more walking.

I finished 26th place in the 2006 Bordentown St. Paddy’s Day race. This is an annual 5 kilometer run (5K) and I’ve done it twice now. My time was 20:25 which is a pace of 6:34. This is an improvement over my last St. Paddy’s day race — 22:01 — a pace of 7:09. I was hoping for a sub-twenty minute finish time, but a serious cramp slowed me down a bit. I ran my first mile in about six minutes, which may have been about 10 seconds too fast. I ran through the pain from the cramp over the next two miles, trying to ignore it. I like to think it didn’t affect my time, but in reality I believe it did. I also remember my shoe came untied at mile two, but I didn’t stop to tie it because I didn’t want to lose any more time than I already had.

The 2006 Hamilton Hangover 5 Mile Run had very nice weather this year. I finished in 33:26, a pace of 6:41, which placed me 30th out of 353 finishers. Last year’s time for the same race was 36:09, a pace of 7:15. So, I improved by almost three minutes.

I finished in 3:21:08, a pace of 7:40.9. This is a 24 minute improvement over my previous finishing time of 3:45:18, 8:39.9 pace. One of my goals in the next few years is to qualify for the Boston Marathon. For my current age (and gender), I need a time of 3:10 to qualify for Boston.

I did my second full marathon on November 21, 2004 in Philadelphia: The Philadelphia Marathon. The weather was perfect, but there were a few more hills than I expected, certainly more than in the Richmond Marathon last year. Still, my time was 3 hours, 45 minutes. This is a 47 minute improvement from last year.
